Overview Of The Scheme
Name of the Scheme North Eastern Council (NEC) Merit Scholarship
Number of Scholarship 16,00 scholarship seats per year.
Amount of Scholarship
  • Rs. 20,000/- per year for Diploma Course.
  • Rs. 22,000/- per year for Degree Course.
  • Rs. 25,000/- per year for Post Graduate Course.
  • Rs. 30,000/- per year for M.Phil./Ph D Course.
Period of Scholarship
  • Scholarship will be valid for the entire duration of the
    course.
Eligibility Candidates from North-Eastern States are eligible.
Objective
  • Promoting higher education in North Eastern States.
  • Supporting students belongs to economically weaker section
    to study further.

Introduction

  • North Eastern Council (NEC) Merit Scholarship Scheme is a 100% centrally funded scheme.
  • It is operated and administered by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region
  • This scheme is focuses on the students belongs to North-Eastern States also called Seven Sister States of India.
  • Its main objective is to provide financial assistance to Students from North Eastern State so that they can pursue their higher education.
  • There is a limited 1600 seats are available for the scholarship in every year.
  • The Scholarship amount given to student is :-
    • Rs. 20,000/- per year for Diploma Course.
    • Rs. 22,000/- per year for Degree Course.
    • Rs. 25,000/- per year for Post Graduate Course.
    • Rs. 30,000/- per year for M.Phil./Ph D Course.

Eligibility Conditions

  • Candidate must pass one of the following qualifying course to avail the benefit :-
    Course Level Qualifying Exam
    Diploma Minimum 60% percent marks in HSLC/HSSLC/Secondary School Examination.
    Degree Minimum 60% marks in HSSLC/Senior Secondary Examination.
    Post Graduate 60% marks in any degree level course. (BA/BSc/BE/BTech/MBBS/LLB/BCA/BBA etc).
    M.Phil./Ph.D Minimum 60% marks in Post Graduate Degree.
  • The student must be a resident of any of the North Eastern State :-
    • Arunachal Pradesh
    • Assam
    • Manipur
    • Mizoram
    • Nagaland
    • Sikkim
    • Tripura
  • The student must have the domicile of the resident of their State.
  • Students studying in first year of their course are eligible to apply.
  • The income of the parents should not exceed Rs. 8 lakh per annum from all sources.
  • Transgenders are also eligible to apply under this scheme.

Document required

  • List of document to be uploaded at the time of applying :-
    • Permanent Resident Certificate.
    • Copy of 10th Certificate & Marksheet.
    • Copy of 12th Certificate & marksheet.
    • Proof of annual income.
    • For renewal, annual progress report and continuation certificate will be required.
    • Aadhar Card.
    • Bank Pass Book.
    • In case of M.Phil/Ph D, candidate has to submit signed synopsis by the Director (Research).

How to Apply

  • The only mode to apply for this scheme is through National Scholarship Portal.
  • Candidate have to register themselves first by clicking on New Registration.
  • Candidate have to fill required details :-
    • State of Domicile.
    • Scholarship category whether pre-matric or post matric.
    • Name.
    • Scheme Type.
    • Date of Birth.
    • Gender.
    • Mobile Number.
    • Email Id.
    • Bank IFSC Code.
    • Bank Account Number.
    • Aadhar Number.
  • After Filling all the necessary details, click on Register.
  • With log in credential given to you by portal, Log in to submit your application.
  • Select North Easter Council (NEC) Merit Scholarship Scheme, fill all the required details and click on submit the application.
  • The application will be scrutinized by the Department of the State Governments and then the North Eastern Council.
  • This scheme is subject to renewal, so candidate have to renew their applications every year.

Features of the Scheme

  • This scheme is available only once in a year.
  • Selection of the candidate is purely on merit basis.
  • Aadhar number is needed for applying this scheme.
  • If candidate drop out the course in between,he/she will not eligible for further scholarship.
  • Scholarship available only for North Eastern State students who are studying in below mentioned institutions :-
    • Institutions/Universities/Colleges included under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.
    • Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
    • Institutions/Colleges/Universities funded by State/Central Government.
    • Institutes of National Importance.
    • Statutory council recognized Institutions, within state as well as outside.
    • Admission should have been made in College/Institutions/University with AISHE Code.
  • There are 1600 are available for the students in this scholarship.
  • Candidate can avail the benefit of the scheme only in the first year of their course.
  • List of short listed candidates will be available on the North Eastern Council Website.
  • The amount of scholarship directly paid to the candidate in their bank accounts.
  • If student fail to promote to the next class, their scholarship will be forfeited.
  • It is mandatory to upload promotion certificate of the course at the time of renewal of scholarship application.
  • The student enrolled in the integrated course will be entitled to receive the scholarship for the entire duration of the course.
  • The scholarship for M.Phil will be available for 2 years and for PhD the scholarship will be available for 3 years.
  • The student should not have received any other scholarship/financial aid from any other source.
  • Candidate also fill the scholarship form through National Scholarship Portal App or UMANG App.
  • There will be no reservation.

Students who are not eligible

  1. The following will not be eligible under this scheme :-
    • Students pursuing programme/courses through Open Universities
    • Students already in receipt of scholarship for pursuing programme under any other scheme(s).
    • Students seeking admission from management quota.
    • Students whose parental income is more than Rs. 8 lakh per annum.
