Introduction
- To achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, reformation in the innovation of science and technology and in its Research and Development is the need of the hour.
- There are some prominent areas where India needs to work to excel in science and technology.
- For this we need to promote research by integrating international facilities under one roof.
- To achieve this, the government of India has come up with a new scheme called "Vigyan Dhara".
- Implementation of Vigyan Dhara encompasses global standards maintaining the national priorities.
- Vigyan Dhara will work as an umbrella scheme for three other schemes, which are its major components : -
- Science and Technology Institutional and Human Capacity Building.
- Research and Development.
- Innovation of new technology and its deployment.
- Its merger will make the process streamlined by increasing its efficiency and funds will be managed more easily.
- With this scheme, the government aims to create an environment for bonafide students to learn innovation, technology, and research building.
- Primarily this Vigyan Dhara scheme works on the five pillars which are : -
- Providing internships for 11th and 12th students, and fellowship for UG/PG/PhD students.
- In research, international collaboration will provide an additional edge that will help the students.
- Through this scheme, the main focus will be on the areas that affect society like climate change.
- It will help to work on the development of areas like clean energy to reduce pollution.
- Research projects and fellowships will be done together.

- For its implementation, the government allocated a budget of Rs 10,579 crore for its 15th finance commission period i.e. from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

- Additionally, it will also help to reinforce the infrastructure of Science and technology, by providing R&D labs to the various academic institutions.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria for Vigyan Dhara Scheme can apply. However, the detailed eligibility guidelines for internship and fellowships under the scheme are yet to be released. Therefore, the criteria shared below are tentative and may receive necessary changes.
- Applicants must be permanent residents of India.
- Applicants must be bonafide students of his/her respective institutions.
- For internship, students must have secured the required percentage of marks in their high school.
- For Fellowship, Undergraduate, PG and PhD students must have attained the required percentage of marks in the given semester.
- Applicants can apply for the scheme for the given financial year.
- The difference between the final exam passed and the internship/fellowship application should not exceed 6 months.
