Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• The PM Internship scheme is one of the major initiatives of the Indian government, announced by the finance minister while presenting the supplementary budget.
• Following its announcement, the scheme was officially launched by the Indian Prime Minister on October 3, 2024.
• The main objective behind starting this scheme is to empower the youth of India for Viksit Bharat.
• PM Internship Scheme will offer real-life working environments to youths and help them to nourish their skills by providing some work experience.
• Ministry of Corporate Affairs is the nodal ministry of this scheme.
• The PM Internship Scheme aims to provide internships to 1 Crore youth in a time span of 5 years in the top 500 companies.
• The scheme was started as a pilot project in the first phase, where 1.25 lakh youth are to be selected for internship under Prime Minister Internship Scheme.
• The youth selected under the scheme will get an opportunity to work with the top 500 companies partnering under the PM Internship scheme.
• Selected youth will have to go through a 12-month internship program where their skills will be sharpened.
• The time duration of internship provided under this scheme is 12 months out of which 6 months should be spent by interns in the real job environment.
• Monthly Stipend of Rs. 5,000/- per month will be provided to youths selected for internship under PM Internship Scheme.
• Out of which Rs. 500/- per month will be provided by the company and Rs. 4,500/- per month will be provided by the Government of India.
• Apart from a monthly stipend, One Time Financial Assistance of Rs. 6,000/- will also be provided by the Central Government to selected youth at the time of their joining.
• Beneficiary Youth will also get Insurance Coverage under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
• Premiums of both the schemes will be paid by the government.
• Applicants in the age group of 21 years and 24 years are eligible to apply for an internship under the PM Internship Scheme.
• Full-time employees and full-time students who enrolled in regular courses are not eligible to apply.
• Beneficiary Youth who have passed any of the below-mentioned educational courses are eligible to apply for an internship under the PM Internship Scheme :-
  • 10th
  • 12th
  • ITI
  • Polytechnic Diploma
  • BA
  • B.Sc
  • B.Com
  • BCA
  • BBA
  • B.Pharma etc
• CA, MBBS, BDS, MBA, CMA degree holders are not eligible to apply for an internship under the PM Internship Scheme.
• Government of India also launched a dedicated Portal of PM Internship Scheme, to obtain all the important updates about the scheme.
• Registration, Shortlisting, Selection, Offer Letter from Companies and all other processes of the PM Internship Scheme will be done through the official portal.
• Eligible and Beneficiary Youth can register themselves under the PM Internship Scheme online.
• Ministry of Corporate Affairs will shortlist the candidates for internship and Partner Companies will finalize the candidates for a 12-month internship.
• Online Application Form of Prime Minister Internship Scheme is available on the Official Portal.

Scheme Benefits

• Beneficiary Youth will get the following benefits as an intern after getting selected under the Central Government's PM Internship Scheme :-
  • Internship Training for 12 Months will be provided.
  • Monthly Stipend of Rs. 5,000/- will be paid to each intern.
  • One-time financial Assistance of Rs. 6,000/- at the time of joining the internship.
  • Training costs will be borne by the Company.
  • Insurance Coverage to Beneficiary Youth under PM Suraksha Bima Yojana and PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
  • Premium of this Insurance Scheme will be paid by the Government.
  • Certificate of Internship Completion will be provided.

Sectors of Internship under the Scheme

• Eligible Youths can apply for an internship under the PM Internship Scheme in any of the below-mentioned sectors according to their educational qualifications :-

  Health Care Hospitality and Travel Jewelry and Gems Textile Manufacturing Consulting Services Agriculture and Allied Entertainment and Education Media Chemical Manufacturing and Industrial Aviation and Defense Pharmaceutical Automotive Cement and Building Materials Retail and Consumer Durables Infrastructure and Construction Telecom Fast Moving Consumer Goods Metal and Mining Oil, Gas and Energy Banking and Financial Services IT and Software Development

Eligibility Requirements

• Internship opportunity under the PM Internship Scheme will only be provided to those youths who fulfil the following eligibility conditions of scheme :-
  • Only Indian Youths are Eligible to Apply.
  • Applicants who have passed their 10th/ 12th/ ITI/ Polytechnic/ Graduation.
  • Applicants with a valid ITI Certificate and Polytechnic Diploma are also eligible.
  • Age of Beneficiary Youth should be between 21 Years and 24 Years (from the last date of application)
  • Beneficiary Youth should not be in full-time employment.
  • Beneficiary Youth should not be in any Regular/full-time educational Course.
  • The Annual Family Income of the Beneficiary Youth should be less than Rs. 8 Lakh per year.
  • Beneficiary Youth enrolled in an Online or Distance Education Course are eligible to apply.

Ineligibility Criteria

• Government of India also sets the ineligibility conditions of this scheme. Those youths are not eligible to apply for an internship under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme who fulfill any of the following ineligibility criteria :-

  If Family has Regular/ Permanent Government Employee. If the annual family income is more than Rs. 8,00,000/- per year. Beneficiary of National Apprentice Training Scheme or National Apprentice Promotion Scheme. Beneficiary of any other Skill, Apprenticeship, Student Training or Internship of State/ Central Government. Master or Higher Degree Passed Youth. (CA, MBS, MBA, BDS etc.) Completed graduation from IIT, IIM, NLU, IISER, NID and IIIT.

Required Documents

• The documents that are required to be uploaded on the website at the time of applying for 12-month internship under PM Internship Scheme are as follows :-
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Education Related Documents.
  • Passport Size Photo.
  • Bank Account Details.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Aadhar Card.

Steps to Apply

• Eligible Youths can apply for 12-month internship under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme through the Online Application Form.
• Online Application Form of PM Internship Scheme is available on its Official Website.
• PM Internship Application will go through three stages : -
  • Registration.
  • Profile Creation.
  • Apply for the Internship.
• Beneficiaries must apply for the internship under the PM Internship Scheme till 22 April 2025.

Registration Process

• Visit the Official Website i.e. https://pminternship.mca.gov.in/
• Select your preferred language from the available list of languages.
  
• On the home page, select the "Youth Registration".
  
• Enter your mobile number in the space given and click the submit tab.
  • If the mobile number is unique check the button.
    
• Enter the 6-digit OTP received on your mobile number and submit it.
  
• Create a password for registration and confirm the same in the space provided.
  
• After submission, the candidate profile will appear on the dashboard.
  
• Applicants need to complete their Aadhaar e-KYC.

• Aadhaar e-KYC can be done manually or through DigiLocker.

  Enter your Aadhaar Number and check the box to give your consent. Enter the captcha code and click the 'Send OTP' tab. Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar linked mobile number and click the verify the OTP. Once verified, click the 'Verify and Process' button.
  Tap on the Digi locker and click the proceed further tab. Now, enter your Aadhaar number and press the next tab. Aadhaar linked mobile number will receive an OTP, enter it and click the 'Continue'. Allow consent to share Aadhaar details with the scheme portal. Click allow button to complete the Aadhaar e-KYC.

Create Profile

• After the completion of Aadhaar e-KYC, applicants need to create their profile.
• For this, login with your Mobile number and Password.
  
• Enter the captcha code and press the Login Button.
• Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number and click the Login again.
• Applicants' dashboard will be on their screen.
• To complete your profile, applicants need to provide the following details one by one : -
  • Personal Details.
  • Contact Details.
  • Education Details. (applicants need to upload their certificates)
  • Bank Details (Aadhaar Linked).
  • Skills and Languages.
• Select skills from the list and add multiple if applicable.
• Once all the details are submitted, click the 'Complete profile'.
• Profile creation successful message will be displayed on the screen.
• You can also edit and preview the details submitted.

Apply for an Internship

• After creating the profile successfully, applicants can apply for the internship as per their skills.
• For this, visit the scheme portal and click on the login.
• Once logged in, click the "Apply for Internship" tab from the dashboard.
• Select the state, District, Sector and field of Interest.
• You can also use the radius filter to refine searches based on your location.
• Based on the input, a list of companies will be displayed.
• Applicants can apply for a maximum 3 internships under the scheme.
• Click on the view button to know more about the internship.
• If interested, tap on the 'Apply'.
• A pop-up message will appear. Click 'Ok' is you wish to proceed.
• Its optional, give a brief introduction, mention three key strengths, and learning outcomes from this internship.
• Check the ten declaration boxes regarding the eligibility.
• Select the preferred notification mode (SMS, WhatsApp).
• Check the last box and click on the toggle button to give consent and to enable the submit button.
• Click the Submit button to finalize your internship application.
• By following the process again, you can apply for the other company's internship program.

Mobile App

• PM Internship Scheme also has a dedicated mobile app through which candidates can also apply for an internship.
• Candidate will have to download the Official Mobile of PM Internship Scheme from the Play Store.
  
• Register yourself on the app after downloading it.
  
• Fill in the details in the profile section and complete the profile.
• Choose an internship opportunity and apply for it.
• Partner company will verify the details and offer an internship opportunity to the youth.

Selection Process

• Submitted Application Forms will be verified by the concerned officials.
• Youths will be shortlisted according to their preferences and their resume will be generated automatically.
• SC, ST, OBC, and Persons with Disabilities will be preferred first for selection.
• Resumes of the shortlisted youth will then be forwarded to participating companies.
• Participating companies of the PM Internship Scheme will select interns according to their rules and regulations.
• The company will then send an offer letter to selected youths.
• Beneficiary Youth can accept the offer letter through the Official Website.
• Selected Youth will have to join the internship on the date and time mentioned in the offer letter.
• Monthly Stipend of Rs. 5,000/- and One Time Financial Assistance of Rs. 6,000/- as promised under the PM Internship Scheme will be transferred directly in the bank account of the beneficiary youth.
