Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview
- Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana was launched in 2012 by the Government of Maharashtra.
- The scheme was earlier known as Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana and later renamed to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY).
- The objective of the scheme is to provide quality medical care to the economically weaker section of the society.
- The scheme covers hospitalization expenses of up to Rs.1,50,000 per family in a policy year.
- However, for transplantation purposes the scheme covers a limit up to Rs 2,50,000 per family in a policy year.
- Beneficiaries can claim cashless treatment in empanelled Government and Private hospitals.
- Only Yellow Ration card/Antyodaya Anna Yojana card/Annapurna card/Orange Ration card holders of Maharashtra are eligible under this scheme.

Scheme Benefits

- Hospitalization expenses include:
- Bed charges in General ward.
- Nursing and Boarding charges.
- Medical Practitioner and Consultants fees.
- Surgeons and Anesthetists charges.
- Oxygen, O.T. & ICU Charges.
- Cost of Surgical Appliances, Drugs, disposables, consumables, implants, Prosthetic Devices, Blood Transfusion.
- Cost of X-Ray and Diagnostic Tests.
- Food to inpatient and one time transportation cost is borne by the State Government.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants with the following eligibility criteria are eligible to receive Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana benefits : -
- Applicants should be residents of Maharashtra.
- Families holding : -
- Yellow Ration Card.
- Antyodaya Anna Yojana Ration Card.
- Annapurna Ration Card.
- Orange Ration Card (Annual income of 1 Lakh).
- Farmers families holding white ration card from following 14 districts : -
- Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Hingoli, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad, Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Washim, Yavatmal, and Wardha.
- Govt. Orphanage Children.
- Govt Ashram Shala Students.
- Female inmates of Govt. Mahila Ashram.
- Senior Citizens of Govt. Old Age Homes.
- Journalists and their families approved by DGIPR.
- Construction workers and their families registered with Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Welfare Board.

Steps to Apply
- To apply for Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana applicant need to visit concerned District/Women/General/Network hospitals.
- Arogya Mitras will be presented at the hospitals to guide the applicant through the application procedure.
- Now filling up of applications and verification of documents will be initiated.
- After completion of all the formalities, MJPJAY health card will be issued to the beneficiary.
- Now beneficiaries can avail the benefit of the scheme through MJPJAY health card in any of the empanelled hospitals.
Key Features of the Scheme
- It provides universal health coverage for all Maharashtra Citizens.
- Hospitalization under 34 specialties is required for medical surgeries.
- It also covers pre-existing disease from day one.
- Beneficiaries can avail cashless medical treatment in any empanelled Govt./ Pvt Hospitals.
- In emergency cases beneficiaries can avail benefits through intimation over call.
- Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana would provide 996 surgeries/therapies/procedures along with 121 follow up packages in following 30 identified specialized categories:

- Beneficiaries covered Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana only will be insured with a coverage of Rs.1,50,000 to 2,50,000 per family in a policy year.
