Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

  • Baby Care Kit Scheme was launched by the Maharashtra Government in the year 2019.
  • The objective of the government behind starting this scheme is to encourage pregnant women of the state to deliver their child in a government hospital or government health centers.
  • Through this scheme, the government also aims to reduce the infant mortality rate of state and to improve the nutritional status of the mother and her newborn child.
  • The nodal department of this scheme is Women and Child Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra.
  • A free-of-cost baby care kit worth Rs. 2,000/- will be provided to all eligible women beneficiaries under Baby Care Kit Scheme of the Maharashtra Government.
  • Every baby care kit consists of 17 daily used items for the newly born child.
  • The following is a list of 17 items which are delivered to new mothers for their child under the Baby Care Kit Scheme :-
    • Plastic Nappies.
    • Clothes of Baby.
    • Sleeping Mat of Baby.
    • Towel for Baby.
    • Thermometer.
    • Baby Oil.
    • Warm Blanket for Baby.
    • Mosquito Net.
    • Small Mat Plastic.
    • Nail Cutter for Baby.
    • Shampoo.
    • Toy.
    • Socks and Nail Cutter Gloves.
    • Liquid Hand Wash.
    • Body Wash.
    • Cloth for Wrapping Baby.
    • Bag to keep Items.
  • All the above-mentioned items are necessary to maintain the hygienic condition of the newborn baby as well as the mother.
  • Baby Care Kit will only be provided to those women beneficiaries who are registered and deliver their baby in the Government Hospital or Health Care Centre.
  • But in some special cases, a baby care kit will also be provided to those beneficiaries who delivered their child in a Private Hospital.
  • Apply at your nearest Anganwadi Centre and avail the benefit of a free baby care kit.
  • Women Beneficiaries can also apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana during their pregnancy, in which financial assistance will be provided.
  • Whereas if the born child is girl then woman applicant can register her in Lek Ladki Scheme of the Maharashtra Government in which more than 1 lakh will be provided in multiple stages.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Women applicants should be in their 9th month of Pregnancy.
  • Pregnant Women should be Permanent residents of Maharashtra.
  • Registration and Delivery of a Child in a Government Hospital is mandatory.
  • Pregnant Women will have to register themselves during their 9th month of pregnancy.
  • Applications will also be accepted after 2 months of the delivery of a child.

  • Domicile or any Proof of residence.
  • Women Applicant Aadhaar Card.
  • Email ID and Mobile Number.
  • ANC or MAMTA Card Copy.
  • Proof of Institutional Delivery.

Steps to Apply

  • Beneficiary Women can apply for the Baby Care Kit under the Maharashtra Government's Baby Care Kit Scheme through the Application Form.
  • Baby Care Kit Scheme Application Form can be collected from Anganwadi Centers.
  • Take the application form from the Anganwadi Worker and fill it correctly.
  • Women applicants will have to attach all the required documents with the application form.
  • Submit the Baby Care Kit Scheme Application Form along with all the documents to the Anganwadi Centre.
  • Anganwadi Worker will primarily verify the received application form and documents and make a list of eligible women beneficiaries.
  • The list of selected women beneficiaries will then be forwarded to the department for approval of kits.
  • The Department of Women and Child Development of the Maharashtra Government will make sure the delivery of baby care kits to Anganwadi Centers in appropriate numbers.
  • Anganwadi Workers at the Anganwadi Centre will distribute the baby care kits among all the eligible women beneficiaries.
