Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren launched the Free Electricity Scheme, called "Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana".
• Under this scheme, the state government has committed to provide free electricity up to 200 per month to domestic electricity consumers.
• The primary objective of the scheme is to reduce the financial burden levy on the economically weaker sections of society.
• Through this scheme, the government will provide free electricity to households with a monthly consumption of less than 200 units.
• The benefits of free electricity under the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana will be provided to only domestic consumers.
• The scheme is also popular by other names such as "Jharkhand 200 Unit free electricity scheme" or "Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Scheme" or "Chief Minister Urja Khushhali Yojana" or "Jharkhand Free Electricity Scheme".
• Started in the year 2022, the Jharkhand 200 Unit Free Electricity Scheme initially offers only 100 units of free electricity.
• In 2024, the Jharkhand government passed the resolution to extend the benefits of free electricity to 200 units.
• Currently, more than 40 lakh domestic consumers are receiving benefits of free electricity under the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana.
• Of these, 33.5 lakh consumers are from rural areas and 6.5 lakh from urban areas.
• The scheme not only offers free electricity but also waives of other charges like energy charge, Fixed Charge, Electricity Duty, and FPPPA Charges.
• The electricity department of the state, the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) is the nodal authority of Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana.
• Beneficiaries are not required to apply for the scheme, as its benefits are credited directly based on their monthly consumption.
• The JBVNL will issue Zero Electricity bills to households consuming less than 200 units in a month.

Scheme Benefits

• The Jharkhand government will offer the following benefits under its Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana : -
  • Free Electricity will be provided to domestic consumers.
  • Up to 200 units will be provided free of charge in a month.
  • Energy charges, Fixed Charges, Electricity Duty, and FPPPA Charges will also be waived.

Eligibility Requirements

• Beneficiaries who meet the following criteria are eligible to receive benefits under the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana : -
  • The beneficiary must be a resident of Jharkhand.
  • The beneficiary must have a domestic electricity connection.
  • Monthly electricity consumption must be less than 200 units.
  • Both rural and urban domestic consumers are eligible.

Ineligibility Criteria of Scheme

• Beneficiary with any of the given criteria will not receive scheme benefits : -
  • Beneficiary with commercial or industrial electricity connection.
  • If electricity consumption is more than 200 units.

Required Documents

• Beneficiaries will be asked to present any of the following documents if required : -
  • Domestic Electricity Connection Details.
  • Latest Electricity Bill.
  • Consumer Identity Proof.
  • Consumer Address Proof (as mentioned in the Electricity Bill).
    

Steps to Apply

• The benefits of Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana will be provided directly to its beneficiaries.
• Beneficiaries with a domestic electricity connection are not required to apply for the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushhali Yojana.
• If a beneficiary's monthly electricity consumption is less than 200 units, the electricity department will issue a zero bill.
