Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

• As we all know, whether its a male or female, education is equally important for everyone.
• It not only educates people to become successful in their respective life but also helps reduce discrimination in the society.
• However, there are still many who discriminate against education based on gender.
• Most often, we have seen that families, especially in rural areas, don't allow their daughters to pursue higher education, providing various excuses.
• One of the most common excuses is that the colleges are far from home, making it difficult for their daughters to commute daily.
• To overcome this problem and to promote higher education among Girls in Tripura, the government has announced "Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Yojana".
• Under this scheme, the state government is providing a free scooty to meritorious girls who secure the highest marks in the intermediate board examination.
• The scooty promised under the scheme is provided free of cost and beneficiaries are not required to pay any charges for it.
• When the scheme was initially announced in the year 2022, it benefitted only 100 girls students.
• Recently on the occasion of womens day on March 8, 2025, the government extended the benefits under the scheme to 140 girls.
• For this session, the benefits of Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Yojana (MKAY) will be provided to 140 meritorious girls.
• The primary objective of the scheme is to encourage girls to pursue higher education.
• The scheme is also known by other names, such as "Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana", or "Mukhyamantri Kanya Atma Nirbhar Scheme" or "Free Scooty Scheme in Tripura" or "Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Scheme".
• Girls can utilise this scooty for their daily commuting to their college, helping them reduce travel time.
• To avail of the scheme benefits, it is mandatory for the beneficiaries to enroll in a Graduation program at any General Degree College in Tripura.
• Scheme is not only for the Tripura Education Board students but also for the CBSE and ISC board students.
• Other than scoring highest marks, beneficiary students must also meet the other eligibility conditions as stated in the scheme guidelines.
• The Directorate of Higher Education of Tripura is the nodal authority of the scheme.
• To receive benefits of Tripura Free Scooty Yojana, beneficiary girls must apply for the scheme.
• Application form for the Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Yojana will be submitted offline.
• Girls need to obtain the Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Yojana application form from their respective college principals.
• All submitted applications will be verified by the authority to confirm the authenticity of the applicants.

Scheme Benefits

• Under the Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Yojana, the state government promises to provide the following benefits : -
  • A Free Scooty for all meritorious students.
  • Students must have secured the highest marks in the intermediate examination.
  • Free Scooty will be provided to CBSE, Tripura State Board and ISC students.

Eligibility Requirements

• Free Scooty benefits will be provided to such students who meet the below mentioned eligibility criteria stated under the Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Yojana : -
  • Only female students are eligible.
  • The Applicant must be a domiciled resident of Tripura.
  • The Parents or guardians of the students must have been a permanent resident of Tripura for the last ten years.
  • Students must have scored highest marks in its Intermediate Board Examination.
  • Completed their intermediate either from Tripura Education Board or CBSE, and ISC board.
  • Beneficiaries must have enrolled in General Degree Colleges in Tripura and are studying in 1st semester of their graduation.

Steps to Apply

• Beneficiaries fulfilling all the eligibility conditions can apply for the Mukhyamantri Konya Atmonirbhor Yojana.
