Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

  • Government of Tamil Nadu launched the Amma Baby Care Kit Scheme on 8th of September 2015.
  • The objective of launching this scheme is to promote institutional deliveries and to ensure that newborn babies in the state will get access to basic hygiene and care products.
  • The Tamil Nadu Government's Public Health and Preventive Medicine Directorate is the nodal department for this scheme.
  • The government with the help of Anganwadi Centers, will provide a baby care kit to all new mothers of the State.
  • Each Amma Baby Care Kit contains 16 essential items which is needed to every newborn child to maintain the hygiene.
  • The estimated cost of each Amma baby care kit is Rs. 1,000/-.
  • The mother of a newborn child will get the following items under the Amma Baby Care Kit Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government :-
    • Towel
    • Dress
    • Napkin
    • Soap with Box
    • Bed
    • Toy
    • Rattle
    • Protective Net
    • Oil
    • Hand Wash
    • Shampoo
    • Nail Clipper
    • Sowbagya Sundi Lehiyam
    • Kit Bag
  • Tamil Nadu Government put one condition in which the Amma bare care kit will only be provided to those new mothers who deliver their child in a Government Health Centre or Government Hospital.
  • Those women are not eligible to get the baby care kit under this scheme who deliver her child in a private hospital.
  • Registration of women beneficiaries will be done by Anganwadi Workers at Anganwadi Centers.
  • Beneficiary Women of "Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam" are also eligible to apply.
  • During the pregnancy period, women beneficiaries can also register themselves for the financial assistance scheme of the Central Government named "Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana" in which assistance will be provided for childbirth.
  • Women beneficiary can contact their Anganwadi Worker in case help is required regarding Amma Baby Care Kit Thittam.

  • The kit contains items for a newborn baby to maintain the hygiene.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Women Beneficiaries who deliver their child in the Government Health Centre or Hospital are Eligible.
  • Women applicants should be a Permanent resident of Tamil Nadu.

Required Documents

  • Tamil Nadu Residence Proof.
  • Applicant Aadhaar Card.
  • Hospital Discharge Receipt to show proof of Institutional Delivery.
  • MAMTA or ANC Card.
  • Mobile Number and Email ID.

Steps to Apply

  • Women Beneficiaries can apply to get a baby care kit scheme by applying under the Amma Baby Care Kit Scheme through the Offline Application Form.
  • Amma Baby Care Kit Scheme Application Form can be collected from the Anganwadi Centres.
  • Take the Application Form, fill it and attach all the required documents.
  • Application Form with all the documents will be submitted to your area's Angawadi Centre.
  • Take an acknowledgement receipt from the Anganwadi Worker for future reference.
  • Application Form of the Amma Baby Care Kit Scheme and the attached documents will be scrutinized by the Anganwadi Worker.
  • The primary selected women's beneficiary list will be forwarded to the concerned department for approval.
  • The department will make sure the supply of baby care kits at Anganwadi Centres.
  • Anganwadi Workers will distribute the Amma Baby Care Kit among selected women beneficiaries.
