Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme

Introduction

• Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme is the major educational reform scheme of Tamil Nadu Government.
• The main objective behind launching Pudhumai Penn Scheme is to encourage girls students to pursue higher education.
• Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme is also called "Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme" and "Puthumai Penn Scheme".
• Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment of Government of Tamil Nadu is the nodal department of this scheme.
• Lots of girls did not able to completed their education after 12th due to bad financial condition, thus they get married early.
• To address this issue, Tamil Nadu Government started Pudhumai Penn Scheme to provide monetary assitance to girls for completing their higher education.
• Under the Pudhumai Penn Scheme, the eligible girl students will receive a monthly assistance of Rs. 1,000/- post completing their 12th up to the completion of graduation.
• Earlier, the benefit of the scheme is provided to girl students who have completed their class 6th to class 12th education from Tamil Nadu government schools.
• From 15 July 2024, the government extended the benefits of TN Puthumai Penn Scheme to such girls students who have studied in government aided schools.
• Such expansion will be done from 2024-25 session which will benefit around 49,664 girl students.
• Eligible Girls Students can apply for financial assistance under Pudhumai Penn Scheme by filling the Online Application Form of Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme.

Benefits of Scheme

• Government of Tamil Nadu will provide below mentioned financial assistance to eligible girls beneficiaries under Pudhumai Penn Scheme :-
  • Financial Assistance of Rs. 1,000/- per Month to Girls Students till the Completion of the Course.

Eligibility

• Eligibility Conditions for Girl Beneficiaries in order to avail the benefit of financial assistance under Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme are as follows :-
  • Only Girls Students are Eligible.
  • Girls who have passed Class 6th to Class 12th from Government and government aided school of Tamil Nadu.
  • Girls Presently Studying in any Undergraduate/ Professional Course.
  • Girls who have passed Class 6th to Class 8th from Private School under Right to Education Act (RTE) and Passed Class 9th to Class 12th from Government School are also eligible to apply.

Ineligibility

• The below mentioned ineligibility conditions is set by Government of Tamil Nadu for Girl Beneficiaries under Pudhumai Penn Scheme :-
  • Beneficiary Girls Who Have Passed Class 6th to Class 12th Class from Private School.
  • Girls Studying in Post Graduate Course.
  • Girls Studying Through Distance Mode.
  • Girls Studying in Open Universities.

Documents Required

• Following Documents will required at the time of applying for financial assistance under Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme :-
  • Residence Proof of Tamil Nadu.
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Caste Certificate (If Applicable).
  • Class 10th Marksheet.
  • Class 10th Certificate.
  • Class 12th Marksheet.
  • Class 12th Certificate.
  • Transfer Certificate of Previous School.
  • Bank Passbook.

How to Apply

• Eligible Girl Beneficiaries can apply for financial assistance by filling Online Application of Pudhumai Penn Scheme.
• Online Application of Pudhumai Penn Scheme is available at Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme Portal.
• Beneficiary Girl has to Register themeselves first.
• After Opening Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme Portal, Applicant Girl have to Register with her mobile number.
• Mobile Number of Girl will be verified through OTP.
• After entering OTP, the beneficiary has to enter the following details :-
  • Personal Details.
  • Contact Details.
  • Education Related Details.
• Click on Proceed Button after filling the above mentioned details.
• After that the Girl Beneficiary will have to fill the details of school from Class 6th to Class12th.
• Then fill the Bank Account Details.
• Preview the Application Form of Pudhumai Penn Scheme carefully and Click on Submit Button after that.
• Application Form and Documents will be subject to verification.
• Girls will be notified through SMS on their mobile number if their application of Pudhumai Penn Scheme is selected.
• Financial Assistance of Rs. 1,000/- per Month will be credited in the account of Girls Beneficiaries.

Features of the Scheme

• Under Pudhumai Penn Scheme, only those girls are eligible who have completed their education of Class 6th to Class 12th from a Tamil Nadu Government and Government Aided Schools.
• The beneficiary girl who has completed her studies under Right to Education from class 6th to class 8th from Private School and after that completed Class 9th to Class 12th from Government of Tamil Nadu School are also eligible for Pudhumai Penn.
• Girls studying in any Undergraduate Course, Professional Course, Paramedical Course, Diploma, ITI, or any other recognised course are eligible to take benefit of financial assistance under Pudhumai Penn Scheme.
• Below mentioned Girls are not eligible for Pudhumai Penn Scheme :-
  • Who have completed their Class 6th to Class 12th Education from Private School.
  • Girls Studying in Open University.
  • Girls Studying through Distance Mode.
  • Girls Studying in Post Graduate Course.
• Financial Assistance under Pudhumai Penn Scheme will be given every month in the bank account of the girl.

• Girl Students studying in any of the following courses are eligible for financial assistance under Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme :-

  Bachelor Degrees Courses like :- B.A. BSc. B.Com. B.B.A. B.C.A. Paramedical Courses like :- Nursing. Pharmacy. Medical Lab Technology. Physiotherapy. Professional Courses like :- B.E. B. Tech. M.B.B.B.S. B.D.S. BSc. (Agriculture). B.V.Sc. B.F.Sc. B.L. Diploma or ITI or any other recognised course. All Arts, Science and Fine Arts Courses.

• The below mentioned schools are also treated as Government Schools and Girl Beneficiaries studied in these schools are also eligible for the benefit of Tamil Nadu Pudhumai Penn Scheme :-

  Backward/Most Backward Welfare Schools. Schools Run by Department of the Welfare of the Differently Abled. Schools Run by Forest and Social Defence Departments. Schools Run by Municipalities and Municipal Corporation. Adi Dravidar Welfare Schools. Kallar Reclamation Schools. Panchayat Union Primary and Middle Schools. Tribal Welfare School.
