Scheme Introduction: A Brief Overview

  • In order to provide better educational opportunities to the students of Rajasthan, the state government has launched a new scheme.
  • The scheme announced is called the "Swami Vivekanand Scholarship For Academic Excellence Yojana".
  • Under this scheme, the government will provide a scholarship of up to Rs 50 lakh to students for pursuing higher studies in both Indian and foreign universities.
  • A total of 500 scholarships will be awarded, where 150 are for foreign universities and 350 for Indian universities.
  • The Swami Vivekanand Scholarship for Academic Excellence Yojana is not a new scheme but a renamed version of the previous "Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence Scheme".
  • However, along with the name change, the government has also increased the benefits.
  • The scholarship under the scheme is available for the following level of study: -
    • Undergraduate.
    • Post Graduate.
    • P.h.D
    • Post Doctoral.
  • The student will be awarded a scholarship only for those universities whose ranking is between 1 to 50.
  • For this purpose, the Times Higher Education (THE) World Ranking will be considered for foreign universities and NIRF Ranking will be considered for Indian universities.
  • Students who have secured at least 60% marks in their qualifying examination and are domiciled residents of Rajasthan are eligible.
  • Also, the annual income of the family: -
    • must be less than Rs 8 lakh for E1 Categories,
    • between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 25 lakh for E2 Categories, and
    • above Rs 25 lakh for E3 Categories.
  • The scholarship offered under this scheme will be applicable for the full duration of the course, as described below: -
    • Post Doctoral (Maximum 18 months)
    • PhD (Maximum 3 years)
    • Post Graduation (maximum 2 years)
    • Undergraduate (maximum 4 years)
    • MBBS (4 years and 6 months)
  • Under any circumstances, the duration of the scholarship will not be extended.
  • Selection for the scholarship is based on the students eligibility criteria.
  • Applications for the Swami Vivekanand Scholarship for Academic Excellence Yojana can be submitted online.
  • Online registration for the year 2025-26 can be submitted from 21 August to 20 September 2025.
  • If seats remain vacant after the first phase, the authorities will invite applications for the second phase starting from 21 October 2025.

Eligibility Requirement

  • To receive the benefits of the Rajasthan Swami Vivekanand Scholarship for Academic Excellence, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria: -
    • Applicants must be domiciled residents of Rajasthan and provide a valid proof of this.
    • Applicants' age must be less than 35 years (as of 1 July of the financial year).
    • Applicants must have attained at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination.
    • Applicants must possess a conditional or unconditional admission/offer letter from a foreign university.
    • The admission letter must be for the same course/ semester mentioned in the application and must be submitted within two months of the provisional selection date.
    • The scholarship will be awarded only once to an applicant.
    • Students already enrolled in the second, third or final semester of the course will also be considered.

Annual Income

Applicants' annual family income is categorised into three categories i.e. E1, E2, and E3. Preference for the scholarship will be given to students based on their annual family income.

E1Students/ families whose annual gross income is less than Rs 8 lakh.
E2Students/families with an annual gross income from all sources between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 25 Lakh.
E3Students/families with an annual gross income from all sources above Rs 25 lakh.

Important Points

  • Applications for the scheme will be accepted in two phases.
  • If any seats remain vacant, an application for the second phase will be invited.
  • In the first phase, applications from E1 category candidates will be considered.
  • In the second phase, the application will be evaluated in the following manner: -
    • E1 category applicants.
    • E2 category applicants.
    • Application received from the E2 category in the second phase (if seats remain vacant).
    • Applications received from the E3 category in the first and second phases. (if seats remain vacant).
  • Out of the total number of seats, 30% are reserved for girls in the E1 and E2 categories.
  • The First preference for these 30% reserved seats will be given to E1 category girls. If any seats remain vacant, applicants from E2 categories will be selected.
  • E3 categories Girls will be selected based on general merit.
  • Any seats remain vacant under the 30% reservation quota will be filled under the general merit.
  • If the target for the financial year is not met, the authority may also invite applications for the third phase, i.e. from 1 January 2026 to 15 January 2026.
  • For any change in the submitted application, the students will receive a duration of 15 days.
  • In each phase, a selection list will be released by the authority.
  • Applicants must submit an ITR report if the family's annual income is above Rs 3 lakh.
  • Only one child per family will be shortlisted for the scheme.
  • However, in the case of E2 and E3 category families, two children can apply for the scheme if they meet the following criteria: -
    • If the scholarship for the first child is awarded to a girl, the second child must also be a girl.
    • If the first scholarship is given to a boy, the second scholarship will be provided to a girl child.
  • In any case, more than two children from the same family will not be awarded a scholarship.
  • Only one child per family in the E3 category will be awarded a scholarship.
