Introduction
- Kerala government is renowned for its welfare schemes that are beneficial to their citizens, especially the underprivileged communities.
- Recently, the government has noticed that the women, especially of Scheduled tribe category, are facing major health concerns during their pregnancy.
- It has been identified that due to financial constraints, these women's are unable to take care of their health, resulting in insufficient nutritional intake for both mother and child.
- To address this issue, Kerala government has introduced Kerala Janani Janmaraksha Scheme.
- The main objective of this scheme is to provide monthly assistance to pregnant women's to ensure they have proper nutritious food.
- Under the initiative, the government offer a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,000/- to each beneficiary.
- Initially, the assistance provided under the Janani Janmaraksha scheme was Rs 1,000/- but later it was increased to Rs 2,000/-
- The government will credit this assistance directly to the bank account or post office account of the beneficiaries.
- Pregnant women who are interested in the scheme and keen to receive its benefits need to ensure they fulfill its eligibility conditions.
- According to the Kerala Janani–Janmaraksha Scheme, it is meant for Scheduled Tribe women only.
- Therefore, women other than the ST categories are not eligible.
- The benefits entitled under the Janani–Janmaraksha Scheme of Kerala will be provided from the third month of pregnancy, until the completion of 18 months.
- To receive these benefits, applicants are required to submit their Janani–Janmaraksha scheme applications offline.
- For this, beneficiaries can download their Janani–Janmaraksha Scheme application form online from the Scheduled Tribe Development Website.
- The Scheduled Tribe Development Department is the nodal department responsible for the implementation of the scheme in the entire state.
- Submitted applications will undergo the scrutiny test and one who clear the test will receive the benefits from the promised month.
- To provide assistance to the eligible beneficiaries, the government has outlay a budget of Rs 17 crore for the year 2024-25.

Eligibility Criteria
- In order to receive benefits of Kerala Janani–Janmaraksha Scheme, applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria : -
- Applicant must be a domiciled citizen of Kerala.
- Applicant must belong to a ST community.
- Age of the women applicants should be greater than 19 years.

- Aadhaar Card.
- Caste Certificate.
- Ration Card.
- Documents related to pregnancy.
- Account Details.
- Mobile Number.

How to apply
- Eligible women can submit their Kerala Janani–Janmaraksha Scheme application form offline.
- The application form for Kerala Janani–Janmaraksha Scheme can be obtained online from Scheduled Tribe Development Department Website of Kerala.
- Fill in all the mandatory fields asked in the application form and attach all the necessary documents.
- Submit this duly filled application form to the nearest anganwadi center or as directed by the authority.
- The nodal department of the scheme will verify the applications.
- Upon successful verification, the department will start releasing the benefits as promised in the Kerala Janani–Janmaraksha Scheme.
