Scheme Introduction
- The Chief Minister of Nagaland has announced a new scheme aim to safeguard the interest of their citizens through financial security and social protection.
- The initiative announced is called the "Universal Life Insurance Scheme" (ULIS).
- The scheme offers life insurance coverage and accidental insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh each to the breadwinner (beneficiary of the scheme), who are not covered under the CMHIS.
- Additionally, the accidental insurance coverage is facilitated not only to the beneficiary but also to three members of their family.
- The Nagaland Chief Minister Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) provides insurance coverage on the demise of the breadwinner, regardless of the cause.
- In these cases, a sum of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to the nominee selected during the scheme registration.
- On the other hand, the accidental insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh covers both disability and death.
- In case of accidental death or in case of irrecoverable loss of both eyes or both hands or feet, the insured amount of Rs 2 lakh can be claimed by the beneficiary or nominee.
- Whereas, a sum of Rs 1 lakh will be provided in case of irrecoverable loss of sight of one eye or loss of one hand or foot.
- Permanent residents of Nagaland who hold a PRC, including government employees, can apply for the Nagaland Universal Life Insurance Scheme.
- General public age between 18-50 years and government employees aged between 18-60 years, can apply for the scheme.
- Whereas, to receive the accident insurance cover, the family member age should be between 18 and 70 years.
- The premium and age criteria for life insurance is similar to PMJJBY and PMJSY for accidental insurance coverage.
- For insurance coverage, the premium under the Nagaland Chief Minister Universal Life Insurance Scheme will be paid by the state government.
- However, employees already covered by accidental insurance under the corporate salary package will not be eligible.
- Rural applicants can apply for the scheme offline by enrolling with a representative of NSRL.
- While, urban areas applicants can submit their applications but before that they need to attest the physical application form from the DC/ADC/SDP/EAS department.
- The scheme beneficiaries are called as the breadwinner of families, who are the primary earning members, while households of government employees, the breadwinner is the government employees themselves.
- Applicants are not required to pay any fees for the registration of Nagaland Chief Minister Universal Life Insurance Scheme.
- As per the CMHIS card the head of the family member will be treated as breadwinner but households not covered under the CMHIS can choose a different breadwinner.

Eligibility Requirement
- Applicants with the following eligibility criteria are eligible for Nagaland Chief Minister Life Insurance Scheme before applying for it : -
- Domiciled resident of Nagaland.
- Beneficiary age should be between 18 and 50 years (general public) and 18 to 60 years for government employees.
- Beneficiaries dependent age limit should be between 18 to 70 years.
- State government employees are also eligible.
- Government employees outside the state are also eligible.
- Accredited Journalist.

- Aadhaar card.
- Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC).

Steps to Apply
- To receive the benefits of Nagaland Chief Minister Life Insurance Scheme, beneficiaries need to submit their application.
- However, the application procedure for rural and urban area applicants is different.
- Rural area applicants can submit their application offline while urban areas applicants can apply online.
For Rural Area
- First, beneficiaries need to visit the NSRLM representative office.
- Now request the representative to complete your enrollment for the scheme.
- You need to provide all your documents and details with the representative.
- Applicants are not required to submit any physical application for the scheme.
- Once the enrollment is completed, you will receive a confirmation in your mobile number.
For Urban Area
- Urban areas applications for Chief Minister Life Insurance Scheme will go through some stages.
- First, applicants need to download the Chief Minister Life Insurance Scheme application form online from CMLIS official website.
- Fill out the required details in the application form and get it signed by the DC/ADC/SDO/EAS of your respective area.
- Thereafter, applicants need to visit the official portal of CMLIS.
- Click on the register tab on the home page.
- Read the general information shared.
- Next, select the type of registration from the given options.
- Enter your mobile number and press the Send OTP button.
- Enter the OTP received sent to the provided mobile number.
- Next, applicants who are the breadwinner (beneficiary) of the scheme need to provide their details.
- After submitting the details, the beneficiary needs to add details of their family members.
- Remember one can add a maximum of three members per household.
- After adding the details, applicants need to upload the attested registration form.
- Now press the agree and submit tab to complete your registration.
