Scheme Introduction

• After almost a decade, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing its assembly election.
• To form a government, all political parties have started their election campaign by luring voters with their schemes and promises.
• As you know elections will be held in three phases viz Phase 1 on 18 September, Phase 2 on 25 September, and Phase 3 on 1 October 2024.
• To grab voters' attention, parties have launched their manifestos, introducing various schemes.
• Meanwhile, the national party BJP has also released its election manifesto, introducing various schemes for all possible groups.
• In their manifesto BJP has announced one such initiative specially designed for college students called "Pragati Shiksha Yojana".
• This scheme is mainly designed for those students who are pursuing their college.
• As per Jammu and Kashmir Pragati Shiksha Scheme, students will receive annual travel allowance of Rs 3,000/-.
• Travel allowance under the Pragati Shiksha Scheme will be credited to the beneficiary bank account through DBT mode.
• This allowance will help such students who are from financially weaker backgrounds and will ease the financial burden on their families.
• While announcing the scheme or in the election manifesto, limited details about the schemes were provided.
• Thus, the details like eligibility criteria, application process and other specifics have not been announced yet.
• Students who are the beneficiary of this scheme should understand that, as of now, the scheme is just a pre poll promise and will be fulfilled only if BJP wins and forms the government.

Scheme Benefits

• The BJP party has promised that if they form the government, each student will get the following benefits under their Jammu and Kashmir Pragati Shiksha Yojana : -
  • Every college student will get a travel allowance.
  • A sum of Rs 3,000/- will be provided annually to each beneficiary as a travel allowance.
  • This allowance will be credited directly to students' bank accounts via DBT mode.
    

Eligibility Requirements

• Jammu and Kashmir Pragati Shiksha Yojana is intended for such students who meet the following eligibility criteria : -
  • Applicant must be a college going student.
  • Applicants must be domiciled residents of J&K.

Required Documents

• Students need to submit their following tentative documents when submitting applications for Jammu and Kashmir Pragati Shiksha Yojana : -
  • Identification Proof.
  • College ID.
  • Passport Size photograph.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Income Proof (If required)
  • Caste Certificate (If required)
  • Aadhaar link bank passbook.
  • Other documents as mentioned in the scheme guidelines.

Steps to Apply

• Bharatiya Janata Party has announced the Pragati Shiksha Yojana to provide travel allowance to each college student.
• Party has announced this scheme during the announcement of the election manifesto.
• As aforementioned, Jammu and Kashmir Pragati Shiksha Yojana is a pre-poll promise of the BJP party.
• Thus the scheme will be implemented if BJP forms the government.
