Scheme Introduction

• After the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing its first election.
• The assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases; first on 18 September, second on 25 September, and third on 1 October 2024.
• To form a government in Jammu and Kashmir, all political parties start alluring voters with their pre poll promises.
• Along with others, the Bharatiya Janata Party has also announced various welfare schemes for the people of J&K.
• One of these, Jammu and Kashmir Maa Samman Yojana, is gaining a huge attention from the voters in the valley.
• BJP introduced this scheme while releasing their election manifesto on September 6, 2024.
• With the help of Maa Samman Yojana, the BJP is trying to lure the women of J&K, as they targeted women voters in Odisha with their Subhadra Yojana.
• Under this scheme, the domiciled women applicants will receive an yearly assistance of Rs 18,000/-
• The benefit of Maa Samman Yojana will be extended to the eldest women in each household.
• The main objective of this scheme is to provide financial support to each beneficiary.
• With the help of this support, the beneficiary can meet their family financial needs and uplift the women who contributed tirelessly for their families.
• The J&K Maa Samman Yojana will cater to such women who belong to weaker sections and low income groups.
• Currently, the scheme is a pre-poll promise and will be implemented once BJP forms the government.
• For this, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will need to cast their vote in favour of the BJP and wish they win the election.
• Whether the scheme will be implemented or not, will be cleared on election result day i.e. October 8, 2024.

Scheme Benefits

• With the announcement of the Jammu and Kashmir Maa Samman Yojana, the BJP has promised the following benefits to eligible beneficiaries if the party wins the J&K assembly election : -
  • Yearly assistance of Rs 18,000/-
  • Assistance will be provided to the eldest women in each household.

Eligibility Requirements

• Upon winning the state assembly election, the BJP will implement the Maa Samman Yojana for beneficiaries who meet the following eligibility criteria : -
  • Applicant must be a woman.
  • Women must be domiciled residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The applicant must be the eldest women in the family.
  • Applicants must belong to to the Economically Weaker Section.
  • Additional eligibility conditions will be shared once the scheme is implemented.

Steps to Apply

• The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the Jammu and Kashmir Maa Samman Yojana.
• This scheme was introduced during the release of the J&K assembly election manifesto to attract the female voters.
• However, this scheme will only be implemented if the BJP wins the election and forms the government.
• As of now, the J&K Maa Samman Yojana is just a pre-poll promise.
• Therefore, the application procedure details of Jammu and Kashmir Maa Samman Yojana are not provided yet.
• It is expected that the application procedure for Maa Samman Yojana may be available either online or offline mode.
• If applications are accepted online, a dedicated portal for Maa Samman Yojana is likely to be developed.
• Whereas, offline applications are likely to be submitted through the concerned department office.
